Ross Island Barracks Impact Study (Townsville, Australia)
Evaluation of the environmental impact of the Barracks activities on the mangroves, sea grasses, salt marsh vegetation, fauna, sediments and waters surrounding the Barracks.
Sewage Treatment Plant Decommissioning (Magnetic Island, Australia)
Study of the ecological values and Groundwater Dependent Ecosystems (GDEs) of a wastewater treatment plant on Magnetic Island, and recommendations for future management options.
Cungulla Sand Extraction Fauna Survey (Townsville, Australia)
Study of the fauna and flora of the Cungulla area for two proposed sand extraction projects. This study was designed to ensure that no fauna would be harmed as a result. A combination of catch and release traps were used with passive animal tracking techniques such as hair tubes and bat detectors.
Green Island (Queensland, Australia)
Evaluation and assessment of the impact of nutrient enrichments from septic tanks on the reefs and reef flats of Green Island. This included tracer studies, geomorphological assessment, biological monitoring and water quality monitoring and assessment to evaluate the ecological status of the system and to provide cost effective remediation and mitigation options for the island resort.

Contaminated Sites and Soil Treatment
Fairfield Waters Development (Townsville, Australia):
Decontamination and in-situ bioremediation of contaminated soils for a large residential development from an abandoned meatworks facility.
Colquohoun Fuel Tank & Railway Avenue(Townsville, Australia):
Two different site contamination inspections were conducted due to the removal of fuel tanks. These projects involved an investigation into the soil geology and determining if there was an elevated presence of hydrocarbons.
Spoil Site Investigations (Charters Towers, Australia):
Investigations of contaminant runoff from spoil sites in Charters Towers to provide estimates of metal contaminants entering the Burdekin River, Burdekin Dam, the designated water supply for irrigated farms in the Burdekin Delta and emergency water supply for the cities of Townsville and Thuringowa.

Environmental Data Interpretation and Analysis
Townsville Bushfire Hazard Study (Townsville, Australia)
A desktop study of the Townsville region to produce a series of maps highlighting areas of potential bushfire based on surrounding flora and elevation details. Areas of Townsville were divided into categories of low medium and high fire danger. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) was used extensively for this project.
North Mara River Investigation (Tanzania):
Physical and chemical evaluation of the water column and bottom sediments, including sediment transport and flood potential investigations, identification of contaminants and a remediation programme.
Townsville Port Authority (Australia):
Investigations into sediment quality, remediation, disposal options, bioavailability and groundwater hydrology associated with contaminated sediment ponds.

Environmental Legislation and Compliance
Development Approvals (Magnetic Island, Australia):
Development Applications under the Integrated Development Approval System (IDAS) for various developments on a World Heritage listed island adjacent to areas protected by international treaty. Developments were assessable against Local, Regional, State, Federal and International Legislation.
Magnetic Island Pipeline (Cleveland Bay, Australia):
The pipeline crossed a number of environmentally sensitive locations including a Dugong Protected Area (DPA), a coral reef flat, and a reasonably extensive mangrove system with significant Potential Acid Sulphate material (PASS). Methods of impact minimisation were developed to provide a workable construction programme acceptable to all levels of government, and compliant under all relevant legislation.
Orpheus Island Research Station (Orpheus Island, Australia):
Orpheus Island Research Station is a World Class environmental research institution situated in a National Park within a World Heritage Area and Marine Park. It is, therefore, subject to a complex series of State, Federal and International Treaty obligations. All these requirements were met and suitable compliance and auditing procedures established.

Aerial GRV Mapping for drainage management and vegetation mapping. Video images taken from a helicopter overlain onto aerial photographs, satellite imagery, topographic, soils, geological and vegetation maps.
Enoggera Creek / Breakfast Creek (Brisbane, Australia):
GRV Mapping of large river systems in Brisbane to assess pollution sources and sinks for monitoring purposes.
Powerline Mapping (Queensland, Australia):
DVD images taken from a helicopter overlain onto vegetation maps for rapid linear mapping of powerlines to monitor vegetation.

Don River Sand Extraction Analysis (North Queensland, Australia):
Geological and geohydrological investigation into the Don River for potential sand extraction.
Rocky Springs Mapping of Geology, Geomorphology and Soils (Townsville, Australia)
This project involved the evaluation of the Regional Ecosystem Mapping of the area to assist identification of potential impacts of the development on established species and communities, and water quality to riparian assemblages and marine zones downstream of the development site. C&R were responsible for surveying and analysing the hydro-geological patterns of the Rocky Springs development area for a master-planned community with the capacity to accommodate approximately 30,000 residents.
Magnetic Island Soils Investigation (Magnetic Island, Australia)
C&R Consulting were involved in an assessment of soils, geology, geomorphology and hydrology of Magnetic Island for the purpose of creating a soils map for Magnetic Island. It included an assessment of the geomorphology, geology and hydrology of the beaches of Magnetic Island.

Breakfast Creek / Enoggera Creek (Brisbane, Australia):
Assessment of the relationships between riverine hydrogeomorphology and contaminant sources and sinks along a river profile.
Torres Strait Islands:
Numerous consultancies on beach erosion, impacts of climate change (wind and wave action variabilities), anthropogenic impacts on coastal erosion, and water composition. This included liaising with local Councils, Engineers, ATSIC, and GBRMPA.
Eimeo Road Upgrade (Queensland, Australia):
Investigations of environmental factors including geology, soils/sediments, geomorphology, ecology, water quality and hydrology. Remediation, mitigation and amelioration options were included.
Black River (Townsville, Australia):
Impact of large-scale industrial sand and water extraction, rural residential subdivision, and natural geomorphic processes, on the ecological and environmental sustainability of the river system. Environmental management risks were assessed and variable temporal remediation programmes indicated. Climate change impact was also evaluated and assessed.

Black River Borefield Investigation (Townsville, Australia):
Development of a detailed holistic analysis, assessment, interpretation and understanding of borefield sustainability for a Nickel Refinery.
Mount Stuart Training Area (Townsville, Australia):
Investigation into historical waste management and contaminant migration into groundwaters and subsequently into the designated emergency water supply. Knowledge of the complex interactions involved in these environments permitted cost efficient management decisions to be made.
Rollingstone Museum Wetlands Investigation (North Queensland, Australia):
Development of ground and surface water sampling regimes, saline water infiltration assessment and modelling, and site evaluation and monitoring programme including potential for off-site leaching into adjacent wetlands near Rollingstone Museum.

Black River Borefield Assessment (Black River, Australia)
C&R Consulting conducted an assessment of the Black River Borefield to determine the ecological and environmental sustainability of the river system. The study encompassed an investigation into the effects of large scale industrial sand and water extraction, rural residential subdivision and natural geomorphic processes. Environmental management risks were assessed and variable temporal remediation programmes indicated. Climate change impact was also evaluated and assessed.
Bulimba Creek Groundwater Analysis:
Review and assessment of sets of groundwater chemical and analytical data at Pine Mountain and Bulimba Creek.
Atlas Mine Site (Cebu, Philippines):
Hydrogeology and hydrogeochemistry of Atlas Mine including acid rock drainage, mine site contamination and mine water quality. Treatment strategies as a result of acid rock drainage were developed and implemented to remediate the site.

Investigation into disposal options for a volume of soil obtained from shallow excavations at an old gas works prior to 1930.
Townsville General Hospital Contaminated Soil Investigation (Australia):
Analysis of contaminated soils on a disused Hospital for remediation and residential development.
Cheetham Salt (Port Alma), Royal Pines Re-development (Gold Coast, Australia):
Field investigations including water and soil sampling, borehole installation for pond walls and Acid Sulphate Soil (ASS) investigations.

Water Resource Management and Water Quality Treatment
Calliope River (Queensland, Australia):
A flow related environmental assessment of key freshwater and related marine ecosystems in the Calliope River catchment in order to inform the development of Water Resource Plans (WRPs) for the area.
Gulf and Mitchell Rivers (Queensland, Australia):
An investigation examining the geomorphology and water quality of the water resources flowing into the Gulf of Carpentaria, including determining the location and dependence of Groundwater Dependent Ecosystems (GDEs).
Horseshoe Bay Drainage Management Plan (DMP) (Magnetic Island, Australia):
An integrated assessment of the surface and sub-surface drainage characteristics of a World Heritage listed island. A local set of Water Quality Guidelines and Objectives (rather than defaulting to ANZECC Guidelines) were developed for use within the Drainage Management Plan.
Derwent River (Tasmania, Australia)
Desktop study of potential water contamination within the Derwent River as a result of recent construction. This project utilised the software packages PHREEQC and Geochemist's Workbench to establish the geochemistry of the water.
